Meet the New Privet —
and a Quiet Argument About What AI Is For
From the Privet editorial team
There’s a particular kind of conversation that’s been happening in the Palm Beach area for as long as anyone can remember.
A new neighbor asks a longtime resident where to go for an anniversary dinner. There’s a pause. A well-considered answer. Maybe a follow-up — sit at the bar, not the dining room. That exchange, in some form, has been happening while walking the dog, at school pickup, and over a morning smoothie at Celis for years. It’s how this place works. It’s part of why people love it.
That conversation is the thing Privet was built to capture.
We just put it into a friendly chat.
The new Privet
Last week, we launched a redesigned theprivet.com — a cleaner front door for everything we’ve been building. Our Best of Palm Beach awards. The Calendar. The Resource Guide. Good Day Palm Beach, New Girl in Town, and the rest of our original series. All of it now lives in one place that finally feels like us.
Alongside it, we introduced Privet IQ — an AI guide to the Palm Beach area, trained exclusively on the businesses our community has voted for through Best of Palm Beach. Ask it where to go to celebrate a birthday, who to call when your dishwasher breaks, and what’s worth doing this weekend. It will answer the way a well-connected friend would. Because, in a sense, it is one.
The honest part
If you’re skeptical of an AI telling you where to eat in Palm Beach, you’re not wrong to be.
This is a community that protects what it loves. Handwritten notes. The unspoken understanding that some things shouldn’t change just because they could. That instinct is exactly right. It’s part of what makes this place this place.
Ask a general AI where to eat in Palm Beach and you’ll get a perfectly reasonable answer — just not always a timely or nuanced one. It won’t know the menu changed last month, or that the new spot everyone’s talking about is actually better at lunch. Privet IQ is built for that.
What Privet IQ actually is
It’s not trained on the open web. It’s not summarizing reviews from strangers. Every answer it gives traces back to a real person in this community putting a name forward through Best of Palm Beach — our resident-voted awards program, updated year-round.
When Privet IQ tells you the best place for a special-occasion dinner, it isn’t an algorithm’s guess. It’s the community’s collective wisdom, made askable.
The line we’re drawing
A few things we want to be clear about, because we think they matter:
• Recommendations come from the community, not from a dataset we don’t control. Results are drawn from Best of Palm Beach — the businesses our community has nominated and voted for.
• Always current. Voting and nominations run year-round, so you always get the freshest, most-loved spots in the Palm Beach area.
• Transparency about what’s behind every answer. No mystery. No black box. The sources are right there in our Best of Palm Beach awards and curated resource guide. Residents nominate, residents vote — the Privet IQ technology just delivers it faster.
Back to that conversation
The new resident, the dinner recommendation, the pause before the answer. The point of Privet IQ isn’t to replace that exchange. It’s that more people get to have it — especially the ones who just moved in and don’t know who to ask yet.
We remember what it was like to be new here — to have someone hand over the names, the numbers, the don’t-bother-with-thats. It’s a kind of welcome that stays with you.
Privet has always been about more than where to eat or what to do. It’s about the people shaping this community — amplifying their voices, championing their work, and lifting them up wherever we can.
Privet IQ is just the latest way of doing that.
Welcome to the new Privet.
